Responsibilities:
1.
Responsible for the operation of the continuous casting machines and related equipment.
2.
With dies provided, checks and assembles dies, coolers, rolls, starter bars and tips, crucibles and refractory to ensure proper operation and starting of the casting machines.
3.
Responsible for controlling manufacture of each alloy by following written Casting Procedures.
Controls alloys to specification by charging and melting metal in the furnace in the correct proportions and in the quantities required.
Assures quantity of melted metal required is sufficient both in the melting furnace and tundish furnace.
Closely controls temperatures in the furnace to minimize yield losses and provides metal temperatures for specific alloy casting temperatures.
Checks and corrects deoxidation levels of metal in the melting furnace.

Ascertains casting equipment is working properly.
Casts at rates and temperatures for alloys and sizes required as directed by the appropriate Casting Procedure.
Starts all casting jobs and adjusts casting machine drive equipment correctly.
5.
Inspects metal delivered for melting to ascertain correct charges are melted.
Visually inspects material for dampness, size and/or contamination before it is put into the furnace.
Removes slag barrels from casting deck and delivers them to proper storage areas as directed.
6.
Dismantles set up after completion of cast.
Cleans area and checks the operation of equipment before proceeding with the next set up.
7.
Closely follows established safety rules and procedures and uses protective safety equipment.
8.
Keeps work area in a neat and orderly condition.
9.
Is aware of production schedule as regards to sizes and alloys required for the next casting job.
Ascertains set-up materials are available and ready for use to minimize delays between jobs.
10.
As required, removes and replaces crucible from the melting furnace according to recommended practice.
11.
Reports to Shift Supervisor any condition of equipment that is abnormal and any operating problem he is unable to correct.
12.
Cleans and lubricates the saw as needed to ensure proper operation.
13.
Cuts spills with lance or saw as directed.
14.
Performs routine maintenance to casting machines.
15.
Performs any other related duties as directed by the supervisor Shift Differential $1.
